MARTINEZ — Months after a judge overturned the murder convictions of two East Contra Costa men, citing the prosecution’s violations of the new Racial Justice Act, both defendants have been re-sentenced to 17 years in state prison through plea deals.Gary Bryant Jr. and Diallo Jackson had both originally been sentenced to life in prison without a chance of parole for decades, after being convicted in 2017 of murder and gang enhancements in the shooting death of 23-year-old Pittsburg resident Kenneth Wayne Cooper. Both men pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in exchange for the new sentences, according to court records.The new plea deals were finalized in late January and Jackson and Bryant were subsequently re-sentenced to state prison. Stabbing reported on campus of San Francisco middle school

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A student at Francisco Middle School in San Francisco was stabbed on Friday and a juvenile was detained, according to the San Francisco Police Department. SFPD dispatched officers from Central Station to the school at approximately 12:45 p.m. on a report of a stabbing, police said.Officers arrived at the school, which is located on the 2100 block of Powell Street, and met with the victim, described as a juvenile, and school staff. The victim was transported by medics to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.Officers detained another juvenile and remain on the scene investigating.Earlier, San Francisco Unified School District announced that a student had been injured in an incident at the school and the police had responded."There is no active threat to the school community," the district said.Friday's incident is the latest in a string of Bay Area school stabbings, including an incident in Santa Rosa that left one student dead.This is a...

Clifford Elementary School in Redwood City no longer on lockdown

(KRON) -- Clifford Elementary School in Redwood City was briefly on lockdown Friday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. However, a short time later, the Redwood City School District informed KRON4 that the "secure campus" status at Clifford School had been lifted."Dismissal at the school will continue as scheduled," a district spokesperson said.Sheriff's deputies are on the scene and all students are reportedly safe. People are being advised to avoid the area.KRON4 received the following statement from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office regarding the incident:"The school was placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. Deputies were on scene earlier and the lockdown has since been lifted. No threat to the community."

(KRON) -- Former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes promised a federal judge on Friday that she will not attempt to flee the country before she begins serving her 11-year prison sentence next month. The disgraced Silicon Valley entrepreneur recently gave birth to her second child. Holmes' defense attorney, Amy Saharia, said Holmes would never abandon her two young children, nor put her parents' house in jeopardy. The house's value is being used as Holmes' bond. Prosecutors took issue with Holmes' promise. Prosecutor Kelly Volkar asserted that the 38-year-old Woodside woman is a flight risk. "She has the means and the motive to flee," Volkar told the judge. Catalytic converter thief steals cell phone at gunpoint in Redwood City

(KRON) -- A suspect caught in the act of stealing a catalytic converter in unincorporated Redwood City robbed a person who was observing him of his cell phone at gunpoint. According to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, a catalytic converter theft took place shortly before 7:30 a.m. Thursday in Emerald Hills, a neighborhood in Redwood City. These are the top 10 vehicles targeted for catalytic converter theft, according to Carfax A neighbor who observed the theft in progress began recording the incident with his cell phone. As the suspect completed the theft, police say they realized they were being recorded and pointed a silver/black semi-automatic handgun at the neighbor and took the fun. The suspect then got into a Dark Blue Honda Accord from the 2000s and drove away, police said.Police describe the blue Honda as having no hub caps, missing the "H" from the Honda emblem, having no front license plate and the numbers "55278022N" on the windshield.
